When you open your mailbox, what do you find? Bills? Unwanted advertising flyers? Junk Mail and special offers that you'll never use? If your answer is "All of the above", perhaps you should try Postcrossing.
I've been a member of Postcrossing for two years now. It's a means of finding something a little more exciting in the mailbox, and also connecting with people in parts of the world that I'll probably never get the chance to visit. You can find out more from the Postcrossing symbol on my sidebar.
Currently there are more than 535,000 Postcrossers in 215 countries, all exchanging colourful postcards and messages. Every time one of my postcards is received and registered on the Postcrossing site, someone, somewhere, sends me a postcard, and then I am given another address, and another card from me is on it's way. It's as simple as that! The only costs are the cards and the stamps.
My 2015 theme for cards is TRANSPORTATION.... and look how many I've received in just a few weeks. However, I appreciate all the cards I get, they don't have to fit the theme.
L-R: USCGC Eagle from Erin in USA; a bicycle made for two from Emelie in Sweden; Streetcar from Tanya in Russia; abandoned rusting International Harvester truck from Megan in USA; Cable car in Prague from Marketa in Czech Rupublic; and in the middle, Mickey flying around the world from Xevi in Spain.
Let's keep the Post Office busy!
Random ramblings from the cluttered brain of a Brit ex-pat North Devonian trying to keep cool in the steamy summers and warm in the frosty winters of The Great White North.

May Day
Yes it's me.... finally! I seem to have mislaid my blogging mojo for the past few weeks. Probably because I ran out of things to blog about, and it was the dreary last months of winter. But May is here and I'm determined to get this blog moving again.
I've been keeping up with Postcrossing and have had lots of wonderful postcards from people I'll probably never meet from all around the world. It's a great feeling to open the mailbox and instead of bills, find a colourful postcard. Even OlderSon has joined!
And the big news around the City of Toronto is that the Toronto Maple Leafs (our ice hockey team in case you didn't know) are in the Stanley Cup playoffs for the first time in nine years! Or is it ten years? Makes no difference.... as they last actually won the cup back in the1966/67 series.
Lots of support for the team in spite of huge prices for playoff tickets. Even the sign outside the neighbourhood church.....
First game is tonight, against Boston Bruins. Go Leafs Go!
Update: Sadly the Leafs lost the first game to Boston 1-4. Keep your fingers crossed for the boys in blue.

Postcard from Slovenija
My second Postcrossing postcard has arrived and this time my card is sent from the town of Jesenice in Slovenia. It shows a painting of the old blast furnace and iron works building in Jesenice, painted by Austrian artist Heinrich Wettach (1858-1929).
This postcard took 10 days to get to me and travelled 6,879 km (4,274 miles). Thank you, Jose!

Postcard from Finland
Today I received my first Postcrossing postcard! WOOHOO! You've never heard of Postcrossing? Then look here. Currently more than 391,000 people from 219 countries around the world are busy sending each other postcards and making friends. Snail mail, the old fashioned way!
Postcards I have sent to Germany, Holland and Taiwan have already arrived, and five more are in transit to other countries. And as soon as a postcard of mine arrives at it's destination and is registered, my address is sent to a random Postcrosser and I can expect to get another card.
I was so excited to open my mailbox today and find my first postcard from Aune in Finland. It was posted 5 days ago and travelled 6,539 km (4,063 miles). Thank you, Aune!
