Mom2Mom Sale

It's not a new idea.... recycling baby clothes and equipment once they are no longer needed by growing babies. But recycling on a huge scale at a Mom2Mom Show is a new idea to me.
The Bride and I spent 3 busy evenings in my basement sorting baby clothes into sizes, boy/girl, styles, makes, and bagging, labelling and pricing.
Just a small portion of the clothes we had for sale.
It was all carefully sorted into bins, loaded into YoungerSon's van and taken to the local Fairgrounds. We unloaded and setup at our rented table on Friday evening, ready to join 200 other vendors in two big buildings for the sale on Saturday morning.
The best way to buy baby equipment.... half price or less!
Now they'll have loads more room in their house for even more!
I made some baby quilts to display at the show, but didn't make any sales, unfortunately, although there was a lot of interest. Shoppers were concentrating on the lower priced items, and not on hand made goods. But I'm thinking of opening an Etsy Store and selling through the internet. Has anyone had experience of this? Advice, anyone?

The doors opened at 9:00a.m.,and suddenly there was an influx of people, lots of pregnant tummies, daddies pushing strollers while the mummies shopped, crying children, tired grandmas.

It was a fun morning. The sale was over at 1:00p.m. We came home with just 1-1/2 bins of unsold small items, which have been returned to my basement ready for the Yard Sale that will happen in the summer. I don't know what the final amount was, but it will go towards new car seats for the twins.

Double Trouble!

They're here!

I've known they were coming for a long time, and finally they have arrived.

One of the blue variety, and one of the pink variety, a baby brother and sister for Isaac and new baby cousins for Callum.

Introducing Max. He arrived on Saturday at 11:40 in the morning, weighing 6lb 14 oz, and measuring 52cm.

His sister Emma arrived ten minutes later, at 11:50 in the morning, weighing in at 6lb 9oz, and measuring 49cm.

Max and Emma were at home with mummy and daddy (YoungerSon and The Bride) by 3:30 the same afternoon.

There was quite a reception there to greet them.... Nana (that's me), big brother Isaac, OlderSon and The Equestrienne and big cousin Callum, and The Bride's mom (Grandma), dad (Poppa) and sister (Auntie J).

These pictures were taken when Emma and Max were only 6 hours old.

The other grandies are here... see any similarity?

Baby Update

Since so many bloggers have been enquiring about the chicken and egg ticker at the top of the page, here's the scoop.

My first Grandbaby is being a little stubborn and staying where he/she is right now, even though the due date was last Monday.

The doc says that all is well with both mother and baby, and it's just a waiting game. But if Baby doesn't make an appearance over the weekend, Monday will be The Day!

Update Monday 18 Feb, 9:45am. No sign of Baby yet, but the doc says we've all waited long enough and so Mummy and Daddy are at the hospital ready for the process to start. Stay tuned!

Update Monday 18 Feb 9:01pm. Baby is definitely on the way, but is a little reluctant to meet his/her new family. Probably feeling shy. Mummy is breathing a big thankyou to medical science for the blessings of an epidural, and Daddy has been providing awesome encouragement. More news in the morning.

SOUPer Bowl XLII

Okay, so this combative helmetted and padded and tight pants extravaganza has been going on for the past fortytwo years.... good excuse for a party! I'll never understand Football, even though the rules have been explained to me in great detail on numerous occasions. However, I'm always up for a family get-together, specially if it involves food, and someone else is doing the cooking.

This year, OlderSon opted out of serving the traditional Super Bowl Chili, and made SOUPer Bowl 42 Baked Potato Soup. YUM! Served with fresh bread, topped with green onions, real bacon bits and shredded cheddar cheese. Brilliant choice! And he baked the potato skins and served them with dip.... even more brilliant!

Then we settled down to watch the game.

Those Patriots were a bit too confident on victory and it didn't pay off. That last minute of the game took sooooo long to play. But the Giants proved that pride goes before a fall. We were all cheering for the underdogs, including Tessa who can indentify with underdogs!

Great party.... thanks everyone. Go Giants!
And in the unforgettable words of the Beatles............

Sorry, I still haven't figured out that video loading thingy... you'll have to click on it!

Is Red Dead?

How many redheads do you know? Are there any in your family?

This article in theToronto Star says that redheads may be a thing of the past in 100 years time.

Both parents need to carry the recessive gene to produce a redhaired baby. My father had red hair but nobody in my mother's extended family did, so I was a surprise. I have quite a few redhaired cousins on my father's side of the family.

It was the bane of my life as a kid. I was called GingerNut, Red, Carrot Top. One girl wondered how I could sleep at night. "Doesn't your hair keep you awake?" she asked. Hmmmm.
My mother always dressed me in blue, she said it went well with my hair. I avoided wearing blue for years, but I like it again now.

There must be lots of redhead bloggers out there. A few that spring to mind are Ginnie at In Soul, Sue at Photowannabe and MaryEllen at Xtreme-English. I'd love to hear stories of how you all survived the inevitable taunts that go with being a redhead.

Only a month to go before my first grandbaby arrives.

I wonder if........

Looking Back.... and Looking Forward.

2007 has only a few more hours before it passes into the history books, and in fact, somewhere in the world it's already 2008. Not everything on my 2007 list actually happened.... we didn't make it to the UK for a holiday or to Gettysburg for the reunion, but we had a wonderful family wedding, and then enjoyed a month in Florida sunshine while friends back in Canada dug themselves out of snowdrifts. Sad things too... the loss of our much loved Wendydog, but YoungerSon and The Bride adopted bouncy puppy Tessa to join the family.

So bring on 2008. I'm ready!

And the biggest treat to look forward to in 2008?

I'm going to be a grandma! I'm so thrilled. OlderSon and The Equestrienne are expecting the patter of tiny feet in February. Only six more weeks! There was a baby shower at the other grandma's house yesterday.

Friends and family, yummy sandwiches, excited conversation, hugs, kisses, cake, a shower hat made from a paper plate decorated with bows and ribbons, and lots of prezzies to open. This baby is going to start off life very well equipped and very well dressed. And probably completely spoiled by Nana (that's me!).
And I wonder what else 2008 has to offer? Whatever you are wishing for, I hope that the coming year will bring health and happiness to you and the people close to you.
Happy New Year!
