My previous post seems to have generated some discussion on what's a verandah and what's a porch. So which is this? Or perhaps it's a balcony? Or could it be called a stoop?
Perhaps its a verandorchonyoop????
This 1885 Victorian house is also on Main Street, and has recently received a facelift. For many years the whole house was painted grey, but the bricks have been sandblasted and the woodwork restored to it's former glory.
Oh no; I missed the discussion! I don't know if there is a difference.
ReplyDeleteWhatever the difference is, it's beautiful. And I want one.
ReplyDeleteTee hee. In my everyday speech, they are the same thing.
ReplyDeleteThis is a lovely reno!

ReplyDeletesame same but different areas?
ReplyDeleteWonderful renovaton. I would love to have the balcony and porch area too. I guess they all mean the same thing.
ReplyDeleteFrom Mr Pedantic.
ReplyDeleteA Porch.
I guess we all have our "upbringing" to throw into the discussion...our heritage, our culture, our language, our whatever. So we're all right, I'm sure. :) It's lovely by any name.
ReplyDeletehmmmm a porch or a veranda...I thought it depended on what part of the country you were from ...who knew?c
ReplyDeleteCool pic. Or as my grandkids would say "sick". Not sick as in ill, but sick as in cool, good, awesome. Go figure!
ReplyDeleteI always assumed a veranda as a 2nd or upper floor outdoor space. And a stoop is the stairs leading up to the porch. So this is definitely a porch.
ReplyDeleteBut I could be TOTALLY wrong. :-)
I would call that a verandah for sure!
ReplyDeleteI always thought a veranda and a porch were the same depending on where you were raised, and that a balcony was off an upstairs room.
ReplyDeleteBut I looked up balcony and it can be off the first level as well.
I just know I do like them especially the round one below:)
That picture shows a veranda. A porch is much smaller. Usually a shelter for the front door and no more. A balcony is usually on the higher floors and a stoop is, what I understand, a walkway or trottoir or pavement for walkers.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure what the difference is, but I love this one.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like lace at the top.
BTW..we didn't have a cottage at Rice Lake, but kept boats there over the years.
I don't mind what you call them, but they are both beautiful.
