Maybe it's the time of year, or the weather conditions, or perhaps the current phase of the moon, but these creepy crane flies are everywhere!
Right now, there are three of them on the window screen, another five basking in the sun on my deck and lots more flying around my front door, waiting to come in as soon as I open it. I don't like them.
Sounds like you have rather a lot of them - I don't mind daddy longlegs, but spiders on the other hand, well I just won't go there!!
ReplyDeleteSounds like an invasion to me.
ReplyDeleteI'm not fond of the creepy crawlies either.
Maybe as fall gets closer they will go away.
Lol they don't live very long. They seem to come out in the fall, another sign of fall. Many moons ago I was listening to the 88.5 and the lady refer to them as 'hamburger' mosquitoes, lol, probably because of the size. So often that is what we call them ... They will go away eventually, we need colder weather. Anna :)
ReplyDeleteDaddy long legs used to fascinate me as a kid - still do a little!
ReplyDeleteAnd as for spiders I think they are great!
We get them here too Shammickite. They are perfectly harmless. not nice though I guess if you don't like creepy crawlies - Dave
ReplyDeleteWe call them "Daddy-Long-Legs" over here, and yeah, they are kinda' creepy, aren't they? Sweet Sam is terrified of them, he'll stay up all night if I don't find and chase them out of his room!
ReplyDeleteThey're so BIG!! I think they're harmless, though.
ReplyDeleteOh wow, I enlarged the photo and it is a lot ickier that I thought it would be. From the smaller photo, I thought it looked like what we call mosquito eaters. Not exactly sure they actually eat mosquitoes, but I let them live so the mosquitoes will die.
ReplyDeleteI don't like them either!
ReplyDeleteWhat a long legs!
Couple of interesting things here for me. First, in our neighborhood we always used the name "Daddy Long Legs" to refer to a very long-legged spider, not this bug. Second, I never knew that this had the actual name of a Crane Bug. I just thought it was some sort of genetic-freak mosquito! Thanks for the education!
ReplyDeleteI guess they are dreaming of moving in with you. :)
ReplyDeleteCreepy, Creepy! I wouldn't like them either...! UGHH!!!
ReplyDeleteOh, is that what those things are? I didn't know. Thanks for informing me! I'm sure they'll be gone soon. Our nights are really getting chilly now.
ReplyDeleteI just caught and released one from my bathroom sink yesterday and there's another one evading capture in my dining room right now. I didn't know they were called Crane flies. They're quite different from Daddy long legs which like to rest upside down on ledges at the cottage. I think the crane fly is an interesting looking creature. They don't bother me tooooo much but I'd prefer them outside where they belong.
ReplyDeleteHA! You may not like them, Sham, but they sure make a great photo op! :)
ReplyDeleteThis is a great time to get a pet frog or gecko. You'll keep them fat and happy for months.
