Amazing what is revealed when all the leaves have blown away.
There's a bench near the base of this tree, overlooking the pond, and it's used by many residents of this 55+ community. I'm pretty sure nobody was aware of a giant wasp community buzzing just above their heads. I wonder how many wasps would live in this beautifully built nest.
What an interesting discovery. You can bet people noticed the wasps in that area!
ReplyDeleteWow...oh my goodness,,, that's huge. Not too fond of the wasp critters but the photos are amazing.

That is a huge nest. Will the city remove it?
ReplyDeleteIt's on private land, so I don't know what will happen. It may already be gone, I'll have to check.
DeleteWhat a surprise! Removing wasp nest is dangerous, we have to leave the task to professionals. I like the first photo where the nest look decorated with leaves.
ReplyDeleteBTW, thank you for your message but I don’t understand why “Happy birthday for yesterday.”

Appears to be a very large nest. Let's hope it is secure and in no danger of falling!
ReplyDeleteLeave them alone and they will leave you alone! It’s quite safe to remove the nest at this time of the year if someone felt so inclined. They are fascinating structures.
ReplyDeleteIt’s incredible how much nature reveals once the leaves are gone! The hidden wasp nest above the bench is such an unexpected surprise. I’m sure it must have been a secret for many, but now it’s a fascinating reminder of how much is happening right above us. Wishing you a great week!
ReplyDeleteHow we can co exist. If we don't bother them, they won't bother us. The bench underneath is a classic example.
ReplyDeleteMany years ago we moved into a country home that had been vacant for a while and discovered a hornet's nest hanging down from the roof above the front porch about the same size as the pictured wasp nest.
