My 2010 Reading List

Fellow blogger Dumdad has published his list of books that he read in 2010, so I thought I'd copy his brilliant idea!

January
Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan

February
Saving Fish from Drowning by Amy Tan

March
Little Bee by Chris Cleave (loved every word!)
The Heart Specialist by Claire Holden Rothman

April
Incendiary by Chris Cleave (great story)
The Unbearable Lightness of Scones by Alexander McCall Smith

May
The Monsters of Templeton by Lauren Groff (weird book)
Black Swan Green by David Mitchell (brilliant!)
Enduring Love by Ian McEwan

June
Outlander by Diana Gabaldon
Beyond Black by Hilary Mantel
Dog Boy by Eva Hornung (weird but totally fascinating)

July
The Book of Negroes by Lawrence Hill (marvellous Canadian author)
Volkswagen Blues by Jaques Poulin
The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold
An Experiment in Love by Hilary Mantel
The Uncommon Reader by Alan Bennett (hilarious!)

August
Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell (brilliant again!)
The Girl with Glass Feet by Ali Shaw (gave up on this book, it didn't grab me)
Attachment by Isabel Fonseca (gave up on this too, but can't remember why)
The Birth of Venus by Sarah Dunant

September
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society by Mary Ann Shaffer & Annie Burrows
Away by Jane Urquhart (Canadian author)

October
did I really not read any books in October??? I must have forgotten to write them down.

November
The Bishop's Man by Lynden MacIntyre (Canadian author)
The Death of Donna Whalen by Michael Winter (hmmmm... strange)
I'd Know You Anywhere by Laura Lippman

December
The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet by David Mitchell (I love David Mitchell's books)
Bury Your Dead by Louise Penny

And I started reading Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel, but it was requested back by the Library before I got very far so I expect it will be on my 2011 book list. I'll just have to read faster.

  1. I hate to admit it but you have totally put me to shame. What books did I read in 2010??? I probably can count them on one hand, but one of them was totally tongue-in-cheek: How to Survive in Holland by Martijn de Rooi. I loved it.

  2. How lovely to hear from you! I'm afraid I've been a dreadful blogger for most of this year, but I hope to improve!!!

All best wishes for a Happy 2011

  3. I should keep a list of the books I read. I always say I'm going to...but never do it!

Here's my January list for 2011:
The Origin of the Species by Nino Ricci
Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain

Yes, I AM an eclectic reader. :)

Regarding your comment on my blog: Where's the Ron Baird sculpture in Stouffville? Is it outside the Latcham Gallery? There's also a Ron Baird sculpture in Uxbridge outside the library.

  4. Interesting list! I've only read Enduring Love by Ian McEwan and The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold from your list.

One of my sister's recommended Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel and I hope to get round to it sometime this year.

Yes, if you don't write down the books you've read on a list you will forget what and when; I do!

  5. That's quite an accomplishment. I read many things in 2010, but mostly atlases or bits of encyclopedia. Novels were few and far between, sadly.

  6. Ah books - I remember them, 1 of the things I used to do BT (Before Twins). That's a great list! I've only read 1 of those, but it's 1 of my all-time favourite books, The Cloud Atlas: just brilliant.

  7. Strangely, as life has become busier I've started reading more! Only one from your list though - The lovely bones. Not my favourite read if I'm honest.

  8. A friend of mine just lent me The Book of Negroes. I plan to start it as soon as I'm done my current read. Impressive list, Shammie.

    Happy New Year!

  10. Great idea!
I posted a list on my blog last year of books as I read them. Then one day as I was faffing around changing things, as you do, & I deleted it! Since I hadn't noted the titles anywhere else I gave up on it.
This year I was given a Sony reader for Christmas, and I have down loaded 4 new books. So I will give it another try.
Waiting to hear all about the surprise.....?

    xx

  11. Shammy in reply to your comments on my blog it is very easy to find your how people have found your blog.

When you first open blogger you will see the dashboard. On the same line as New Post is a tab Stats which you should select.

From there select traffic sources. At the bottom of the page is are the search keywords people have used to find your blog.

    Good luck!

  13. I have read very few books since my series of operations, I just can't seem to remember who is what and related to whom. My memory has been terrible and to be honest it frightens me that I maybe losing the plot!!!!!!

  14. I'd do this, but most of the books I read last year are ones I've read before--often several times before. I do love my books and can't let them go.

I've read about 1/4 of the ones on your list, e'en so. I especially loved LITTLE BEE.

  15. Reading your comments I found out how to see which posts people are reading the most in my blog. I was astounded to see that I had 4,871 reader views on my post on Belize in Central Africa. I guess it must be because there are not many posts on that country.

I look at your list of books but I can’t comment as I have not read any of them. I read a lot too and usually remember to write them down. Right now I am reading « A Moveable Feast « from Ernest Hemingway, which was a present from my husband who bought the book in Key West in Hemingway's house (the new edition.)
