Framed!

The Group of Artists that my friend V and I belong to has been invited to exhibit art work at a local gallery during February, so we have been asked to provide up to four paintings each.  I found three that I thought weren't too bad, so took them to the nice Korean man in the Art Supplies Shop and chose some frames. He put them together for me and voila! It's amazing what a difference the right frame can make.

MEADOW  acrylic, image 12" x 16", frame 14" x 18"

YELLOW DOOR ON SECOND STREET   acrylic, image 16" x 20", frame 19" x 23"

HIDDEN VILLAGE  acrylic, image 12" x 16", frame 18.5" x 23"
Now comes the hard part.... putting a price on them. This is the first time that my art friend and I have actually shown our work to anyone other than family and friends, and I'm pretty nervous about hanging paintings in a public gallery.  We have been given a spreadsheet showing pricing guidelines according to size and framing, but I can't imagine anyone actually spending money any of these. But they'll look nice on my walls at home.

  1. I love them! Well done Shammickite and what a thrill to have them exhibited for sale in a gallery.

As for the pricing issue - Go with the guide they say, if that's what the general price is in that gallery. You see the thing is, if you priced 'too low' you would be under cutting the other regular artists there and that might tick them off, do you see what I mean. So hence, it is better to go with what they say. Ok if you have some hesitation then lower your price only 'slightly' if that would make you feel happier, but honestly bear in mind what I say about the pricing for other artists. Hope this helps a bit....ann.

  2. Wow. I love them - and the frame cannot set off what isn't there.
I like ann's advice about pricing them too.
You really are in a win/win situation. Perhaps someone else will buy your work - but if they don't you will have it to remind you just how talented you are.

  4. Well done, and my goodness you keep busy!
My favourite is the Meadow, perhaps because I love the countryside so much. Is it an actual place you have painted, perhaps from a photograph, or were you out there with your easel?

  5. You are quite talented. I like all of these but my favorite is the one with the yellow door. My mother painted (in oils) and did some great work. In fact, I have one of her larger paintings hanging on the wall behind my desk. You may very well sell these. And when you become famous the buyers will become rich.

Re your comments about golf: I love to play golf, but it's a terribly difficult game. A famous golfer once wrote that "golf is a good walk spoiled." :)

  6. You must be smiling at the framed paintings, they look so nice. I wish I could have that talent for painting. My favorite is the same with Lowell's. I think I know how pricing is hard, but actually they are priceless.

Regarding your question, yes, many people wear Japanese traditional kimono on each special passage of life including first visit to shrine by 30-day-old baby, 7,5,or 3-year-old celebration, coming of age day, graduation, wedding, mourning for parents, and so on. Recently more and more young ladies stroll around Kyoto and Nara in their kimonos and summer festival is full of ladies in simple summer cotton kimono.

  8. How exciting! They really are pretty and I haven't a clue as to how to price - I'm not good at that kind of thing.

    All the best!

  10. You are right about the framing.

They all look good to me.

If left up to me artists would starve, but that's my reality and not necessarily my preference.

  13. Pricing is scary but you deserve to charge what the traffic will bear. :)) Good for you for testing the waters!

  14. I saw the first picture and the title said "Farmed" in my mind. Then it all became clear and I appreciated what was there in reality. Very nice they are.
