Easter Bonnets

In your Easter bonnet, with all the frills upon it,
You'll be the grandest lady in the Easter Parade.
I'll be all in clover and when they look you over,
I'll be the proudest fellow in the Easter Parade.

I think that was Judy Garland's song wasn't it? I remember my mother humming it every Easter.

Well, I'm not wearing an Easter Bonnet today, but here are some fancy creations that I saw in the BeauChapeau hat shop in the up-market tourist town of Niagara-on-the-Lake last week.
I don't think I've ever been in an actual hat shop before. Well, not since I was a little girl and used to go with my dad to the nearby "big town" every year to buy a new trilby. Sorry boys, I didn't take any photos of the male oriented hats. Lots of ball caps, fedoras, cowboy hats, Tilleys, even a black velvet top hat! Men looked so good when everyone wore hats. (Especially those gentlemen with a little bald spot! You know who you are....)
But the ladies hats were truly fabulous! Every colour and style you can imagine. And pretty pricey too. I love the look of a hat, it completes an stylish outfit.
I bought a fancy wedding hat complete with ribbons and feathers when YoungerSon got married (WOW that was ten years ago!) but didn't have the nerve to wear it, as none of the guests was wearing a hat. A hat is not so much a tradition here in Canada as it is in England. But I'm invited to a wedding in June.... will I be brave enough to bring my wedding hat out of storage? We'll see........

  1. Do women still wear hats and bonnets and stuff like that? I can't remember seeing one do so. Have a happy day.

  2. Oh I wanted a photo of the guys hats too. I ought to add I don't wear a cap to cover up my bald patch, but if I get one it is a useful item. Ha.

  4. Hats used to be an essential part of dress. And particularly when going out...
And I do think they add immeasurably.
I hope you do wear your wedding hat - and would love to see photos.

  5. Saw a few fancy hats around here, too, today. Not often we see that.

  6. Definitely something for everyone here Shammi.. I'm not so much a hat person myself but my daughter Aimee loves and suits them so well! Your butterflies from yesterday were incredible, the markings on the wings always amaze me with their uniformity and colours.

  7. Wish the ladies would go back to the idea of using Easter bonnets and hats. They are lovely! I remember a few years ago when my daughter was a little girl that all the young girls used their hats on Easter Sunday in church. Yesterday I did not see one single girl or lady using it. Sad. I love the tradition.

  9. Yes, yes, yes - wear your pretty hat! Why not? You are right - we don't wear hats that often here in Canada. I bought an elegant wide brimmed hat in Saint Maarten (Caribbean) a few years ago but don't wear it here at home.

I love the bright pink hats in your pic. And my mother used to hum that song as well - every Easter! And we kids would laugh at the idea of wearing an Easter bonnet. LOL.

  10. Hats usually make me look like I have a pot on my head...not too flattering.
These are so lovely. Wish I had a place to wear them.

  11. Wow, so many lovely hats! Just looking at them makes me smile. I wear hat only in summer, a wide-brimmed hat. Enjoy wearing a hat at the wedding and pose like a movie star.
