It's been a wet summer and the fungi are thriving in the forest.
The only one I can name with certainty is number 8, Giant puffball (Calvatia gigantea).... see my previous post.
Number 5 looks like Field mushroom (Agaricus campestris) but I'm not sure.
I don't intend to eat any of them!
Updates:
1: Turkey Tail Bracket Fungi (Trametes versicolor) thanks Tom.
2. Grey Oyster Mushroom.... possibly.
3. Russula humidicola or Russula silvicola, your choice!
7. Confirmed as Coral Mushroom, a.k.a. Coral Tooth or Coral Hydnum (Hericium coralloides) for details see here, and if you fancy it for dinner, see here.
Brilliant shots! Bit of a wimp where trying new fungi is concerned. I only eat what I know!
ReplyDeleteSome interesting looking toadstools growing on the outside of Martin's house! I'll see you there!
What a great collection here...
ReplyDeleteI will 'hazard' a guess. please note I said 'HAZARD' ha!..
1 Turkey Key Bracken Fungi
2 Grey Oyster ?
3??
4??
5 Field Mushroom ?
6 Whats is known as Magic Mushrooms ? I think.
7 Coral Mushroom
8 Giant Puffball...
The one I would eat going off what I can see here is the Puffball... Slice the top off, scoup out the spores, add chopped onions, garlic, smoked bacon finely chopped and bake slowly... beautiful..:O)..
The one I really like here and I've yet to ever come across is the Corel... its a stunner..
Tom..
Remember I did say Hazard a guess.
I am not an authority on mushrooms but my neighbor is. The problem is that he is as old as I am and does not get around so I cannot ask him what is what.
ReplyDeleteI do know that in #4 the larger mushroom among the smaller ones is one that he used to pick and eat and even went to Michigan to get them.
I don't have the slightest clue about mushrooms. But very nice shots.
ReplyDeleteI wish I knew more about mushrooms! I just take photos of them. LOL

I think I would decline an omelette composed of these . . . Just on general purpose.
ReplyDeleteMagic Mushrooms? Watch out!
Interesting photos. I like to look at mushrooms, but am not a fan of eating them, even when I know what they are. I avoid putting fungus in my mouth as often as is possible :-)
ReplyDeleteI would like to help you with some id, but i know nothing about mushrooms, except that i love them! :-) What a great collection of beautiful fungui pictures! My favourite is the 1st one, just awesome!
ReplyDeleteGlad to know your son and DIL had a good time in Portugal!

How neat to have found so many different kinds! Nice shots of them too!
ReplyDeleteI only know the names of the mushrooms I eat at the restaurant.
ReplyDeleteSorry, not a mycologist here.
I wouldn't trust Dennis.
