Welcome to the Winter Olympics!

As I write this, the Opening Ceremonies of the Winter Olympics are only 6 hours away. The Olympic Torch Relay is making it's final journey through the streets of Vancouver, and Olympic Fever is running high throughout the country.
150 proud Canadians will carry the Torch through Vancouver today, including celebrities from the worlds of showbusiness, sports, politics, education, and representatives from Canada's multi-cultural population. Even Arnie You-Know-Who the Governator got a chance to run through Stanley Park carrying the Flame!
I'll be at YoungerSon's house to watch the Opening Ceremony extravaganza tonight. And I'm looking forward to watching the games.
Even though Canada has hosted the Olympics twice (Montreal Summer Olympics in 1976 and Calgary Winter Olympics in 1988), Canada has never won a gold medal on home turf..... so I'm cheering loudly for the home team....
Go Canada Go!

  4. Are you kidding me, Sham? No medal ever on home turf? WOW! I think this year you might change that with your hocky team??? I'll be rooting for you. We're 9 hours ahead of Vancouver, so some things we have to watch the next day. But we're watching and loving it. The Opening Ceremony was just spectacular, as you already know. You can be proud. I thought of YOU when I saw the Scottish contingent doing their song and dance. :)

Also, I read that Vancouver is the #1 most livable city in the world.

  10. The opening ceremonies were magnificent! And now you have a gold!

(I was so happy to see that happen. You folks deserve more, and you'll get some.)

I was most impressed by the poet extolling the virtues of the Canadian people. I'm an American, as you know, but I was tearing up listening to his beautiful words. The fact that he made such a wonderful point concerning your nation's manners - the saying of "please" and "thank you" - made me wish to become a citizen of your land right then and there. I mean that, most sincerely. And he was right. Canadians, in my experience, are some of the most wonderfully well-mannered people on Earth. Thank God for you folks, and I hope you win more medals than anyone!
