Remembering Montreal
Seventeen years ago today, a gunman entered the Ecole Polytechnique at the University of Montreal, separated the men from the women, and deliberately murdered fourteen female engineering students. Today, Canada is remembering the tragedy of those lost lives, and wondering how in the world can we stop crazy embittered people taking other innocents with them on a suicide mission.

That was a terrible event, how could somebody do that? It is not just the waste of 14 lives’s but the heartache it brings to all the poor Mothers, Fathers, friends and relative of the girls. I am not sure what happened to the killer but perhaps Hell will be a to kinder place for him.
ReplyDeleteSad... so sad. I do believe that when a person no longer desires to live, it is no big thing to take others along with him. Yet, the irony of that is that it is a twisted act of community... the killer not wanting to be alone in his suicide. (I'm assuming that the killer took his own life too? Maybe not?)
ReplyDeleteMartin and Ms Barkat: The gunman stormed into an engineering class at l'Ecole Ploytechnique in Montreal and, armed with a semi-automatic rifle killed six female students. He moved on to other parts of the school killing seven other women, before turning the gun on himself. A cowardly end indeed. The assailant used a semi-automatic military weapon, which he owned legally despite a history of antisocial behaviour. After committing suicide, he was identified only after police conducted a store-by-store search in the Montreal area to see who had recently sold the rifle, because guns were not registered except at the point of sale.
ReplyDeleteDecember 6th has been declared a "National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women". The media broadcast the gunman's name over and over. I will not name him here. But I will name his fourteen victims:

A very sad event, indeed. I was shocked when I heard the news (I was already in Switzerland). I can't understand how people can do this.
