What Some Girls Will Do To Look Beautiful!

Storm clouds like these on the horizon have been a familiar sight here in Southern Ontario this summer.

They usually bring sudden heavy downpours accompanied by thunder and lightning, soaking the back yard. There's so much water running off the roof that the eavestrough on my back porch just can't handle the flow. But at least the grass is still green, and not brown and crunchy like last summer.

But not everyone is tired of the wet weather. The creatures that live around the town reservoir really appreciate the extra moisture. Usually by the middle of August, the ponds are pretty dry.

There are other creatures that love this wet weather too. I was puppysitting this weekend so we went walking along the forest path by the reservoir. Tessa found a suitable mud puddle, and before I could stop her.....

It gives a whole new meaning to the expression "facial mud pack".

  1. I'm sure it leaves a mess, but the visual of the water pouring down is great. The sound is probably rather nice, too, no?

Come to think of it, you could have probably stood the dog under there and had him shiny clean in no time flat!

  4. That's a cute li'l froggy.

I gasped out loud when I saw what Tessa did. If that were my dog, I might have shot her, too... but not with a camera. ;-)

  5. ayayayay....well, that's better than rolling in dead critters, which is what some dogs love to do!! what a cute dog.

  6. Eavestrough! What a very much nicer word than gutter.

Lordy lordy; what a mess. Stick Tessa under the overflow.

  7. Oh my dear in Ontario
-- if it has not been for the Fact this tiny planet has clean H2O, what could then survive here?
I've been to deserts. Places where they have never had rain for more than 100 years. We complain, they complain.
Your photos shows excately how one can enjoy rainfalls (even our Cats enjoy - but they are Manx.)
And sitting on our platform watching down to the Fjord and Water - so changing and liveful, even after heavy rain, when the fjord is clored by the mud and soil brought out by the river - It simply signfies: LIFE.

Thank you for helpful words and thoughts. Hope to be back and in normal shape very shortly.

    hugs
    Tor

  9. As my mother said, some dogs roll around in things that are MUCH worse than mud. Take our dog for instance. She's smell funky lately. I think she found something dead to roll in. Eww!

By the way, that is one lovely green frog!

  10. What a dog! That is funny. Your clouds look like ours here in Florida. Where will you be in Florida?

  11. AHHAHAAAHAHAHAA!! Tessa wanted a spa day too, apparently.

I bet you were only mildly annoyed with her, if at all.

The big question is how did you clean her up before letting her back in the house? Did you hose her down on the lawn?

  12. And how much fun did Tessa have when you gave her a bath....she is one cute doggie. We have had rain and thunderstorms too...I have a feeling our summer is about over.

  14. REPLY ALL:
When we got home, I hosed her off outside, and as it was a sunny day, she dried out quite well. But not only was she extremely muddy, she had rolled in a plant that covered her in tiny green spiky seeds! YoungerSon took her home where she got a thorough bath, and she has an appointment at the doggy beauty parlour next week for a shave.... the only way to get all those seeds out of her fur!
We'll be taking a dryer route on our walks in the future!

  27. What a gorgeous doggy. What sort is she? Badger would just love to play and roll around in that mud with her. Maybe we should take two muddy dogs over to Martin's.

  28. That is hysterical, Ex-S! And who had to clean her up??? Ahhhh! I just checked and apparently everyone wanted to know the same thing. It looks like you had the easy end of it. :)

  29. Oh Tessa! I'll bet she was rolling in the mud to try to rid herself of those little green seeds. She and Benny could learn bad things from each other. He has a penchant for dead fish carcasses.

  30. Oh My....Tessa really knows how to pamper herself! Great post!!

  31. Had to laugh at this - and did she shake the mud all over you when she got out?!!

Thought about going to Combe Martin on our little Devon jolly but sadly there wasn't enough time.
