Even though I haven't posted for a couple of days, I've been trying to keep the creative juices flowing. I spent much of yesterday wandering in the past.... a bit of genealogy research for a friend. Why oh why did our ancestors all use the same names? Far too many Georges, James's, Johns and Mary Annes. No imagination! I feel so happy when I come across a Claudius or a Lavinia, although the actual Claudius or Lavinia probably hated their names and wished they were unassuming John and Mary Anne.
I decided to play with some of the mistake paintings that weren't going anywhere.... already messed up so why not mess them up some more. It can be huge fun sploshing paint around.
I so agree about the names in families. In my family, the name Sam is the problem one. Every generation has numerous Samuels with the same surname. It is so hard to trace them
ReplyDeleteThe family I was tracing had far more sons than daughters in each generation, all named after their fathers and grandfathers, and all called their children the same names, a nightmare to sort out.
DeleteFun is a prime component in making art. As you see!
ReplyDeleteYes, the whole point of being creative is to have fun.
DeleteI make fun of Ukrainians because 20 names covers almost every woman in the country. I suspect the same goes for men's names as well. However like you I look at my Hingston family tree going back a ways and it is flooded with William, James, John, and Freke. NO imagination.
ReplyDeleteYour paintings look too much like intestinal worms to my liking. The maple leaves were awesome.
Freke? That's a new one on me.
DeleteYou have to agree that intestinal worms can look kinda cute in technicolour!
Freke is a very old Irish name that our family married into a couple-three hundred years ago.
DeleteAgree technicolour intestinal worms do indeed look kinda cute
Hooray for having fun - something I think we let go of far too early.
ReplyDeleteAnd a big sigh at the using/reusing the same names. That would make tracing sooooo much more difficult.
I have to have some fun with my art, because there's not much else that is fun in a Covid restricted life!
DeleteI like your fun paintings, they're unique and one of a kind.
ReplyDeleteUnique and weird I think you mean!
DeleteNice sploshing.
ReplyDeleteSploshing can be messy but very liberating!
DeleteLove your "Sploshes" great color and motion.
ReplyDeleteTo answer your question..the guy doing the cutting has a farmette and has a place to burn plus his own fireplace...we have a fireplace but don't use it.
Sue
Thanks, it was fun .... going to do more.
DeleteThat's the beauty of art Shammi, there are no mistakes, just creative differences 💜
ReplyDeleteVery well said! And very diplomatic too!
DeleteYou call them mistake paintings; I like them.
ReplyDeleteWe did research on a house we lived in that was built in 1832. The family over the years spelled their last name four different ways. Genealogy can be hard.
the Ol'Buzzard
More crazy paintings on the way! Yes, names can be spelled all sorts of ways. My family name has no E at the end, however all my uncles and cousins have an E.
DeleteBoth of those paintings are lovely. I like the top one in the blue hues – I think it would make a great tile, like for a hot plate.
ReplyDeleteOh I never thought of that! Actually it was a tree paper collage that didn't work so I tried something new on top.
DeleteBeautifully done.
ReplyDeleteThanks, you are very kind!
