Even though I haven't posted for a couple of days, I've been trying to keep the creative juices flowing. I spent much of yesterday wandering in the past.... a bit of genealogy research for a friend. Why oh why did our ancestors all use the same names? Far too many Georges, James's, Johns and Mary Annes. No imagination! I feel so happy when I come across a Claudius or a Lavinia, although the actual Claudius or Lavinia probably hated their names and wished they were unassuming John and Mary Anne.
I decided to play with some of the mistake paintings that weren't going anywhere.... already messed up so why not mess them up some more. It can be huge fun sploshing paint around.
That was fun! The colours are actually a lot brighter than these photos show. Perhaps I'll expand on this theme, there are more mistakes in storage that can be played with. Crazy stuff!
I so agree about the names in families. In my family, the name Sam is the problem one. Every generation has numerous Samuels with the same surname. It is so hard to trace them
ReplyDeleteThe family I was tracing had far more sons than daughters in each generation, all named after their fathers and grandfathers, and all called their children the same names, a nightmare to sort out.

DeleteI make fun of Ukrainians because 20 names covers almost every woman in the country. I suspect the same goes for men's names as well. However like you I look at my Hingston family tree going back a ways and it is flooded with William, James, John, and Freke. NO imagination.

Freke is a very old Irish name that our family married into a couple-three hundred years ago.

I have to have some fun with my art, because there's not much else that is fun in a Covid restricted life!

ReplyDeleteTo answer your question..the guy doing the cutting has a farmette and has a place to burn plus his own fireplace...we have a fireplace but don't use it.

ReplyDeleteWe did research on a house we lived in that was built in 1832. The family over the years spelled their last name four different ways. Genealogy can be hard.

More crazy paintings on the way! Yes, names can be spelled all sorts of ways. My family name has no E at the end, however all my uncles and cousins have an E.
