Day By Day

This afternoon we had the first Variety Show rehearsal on the stage. Since January we have been rehearsing in a church meeting room. One of this year's songs is Day By Day from the 1971 musical Godspell.

Of course, I'm far too young to remember that particular production (cough cough) but I'm told that it was the height of groovy flower power and hippie flower children, so what better way to add some colour to the song than to pass huge coloured paper flowers around the chorus as we sing.
I've been making these flowers from pleated craft paper (bought cheap at the local thrift store!) and as you may have noticed, Spot has been helping me.

  1. Oh my goodness! I can remember a local high school production of "Godspell" in the 70's! I was too young to be in it, but not too young to remember it!

Thank you for visiting my blog today!

  7. Oh, bliss. I'm so glad I can comment on your site, which I couldn't do a couple days ago (said I wasn't a team member!).

Anyway, you've made me want to go pull out the VHS copy we have of Godspell. I LOVE those songs. How fun!

  8. :-( I thought I left a comment earlier, but I must have clicked the "X" instead of "enter."

I watched Godspell back around 1975 or so. Loved it. The acoustic guitar, especially.

John the Baptist made his entrance from behind the audience, sprinkling (baptizing) us as he made his way towards the stage. I was young enough to think it was cool to get wet.

  14. Well, what can I tell about that? My oldest son is born in 1968 and #2 in 1969. That was a result of Flower Power and Hippie life.
Godspell was Commerce out of what we felt otherwise - Respect for each other and repeated up and up: Make love, not war. Godspell was like "Miss Saigon" - like "Evita". Would it be fun in 7 years to have "Mister Saddam". I do not think so. That is not respect: the make a fortune and a joyful entertainement out of tradegy. Sorry. I hope i did not harm you;))

PS. I'm living in Norway. And I'm far away from socialist or extreme religious.

  15. I'm so happy I finally got the chance to visit your blog. I've enjoyed reading thru your latest posts, they brought a smile.

Thanks for commenting and visiting mine a while ago. I regret not coming by sooner, I see I've missed a lot!

A little side-note: I've spent very many days in Ontario, even lived there briefly between college graduation (Cal Poly) and married life in Whittier. Went to Victoria Gardens in January - quite impressive! My how the city has grown!

  16. Oops!! Ignore all that babble in my previous comment. I read your sidebar, but not your header and assumed you meant California for Ca. Just like a bloody californian to think the world revolves around it, right? ;-) My bad. Sincerest apologies! I do, however, LOVE Ontario, Canada (much more than Ontario, California - a place I will never live again, now that I know you don't live there, LOL!). Drove west from PEI all the way to BC on the Trans-Canadian Hwy and loved exploring the beautiful country. Spent 4 days in Ontario: 3 in Toronto, another en route to Manitoba.
(obviously, i like to babble). :)
