Shelter from the Storm

One of the many Mourning Doves that live in my back yard.

The bird feeder is filled up regularly, but the mixture I have at present contains a lot of corn, not the most popular food with local birds. However, the squirrels readily eat up any extra that falls to the ground.

  1. Thanks for visiting my blog.

Maybe when you come to Guelph, we could have a coffee. There's lots of Tim Horton's here! ;)

I really enjoy mourning doves. I find them very friendly and placid.

  2. We have doves here year round as well...they love our oiled sunflower seeds...as do the squirrels and the flickers. Their coo is soothing. We also give the squirrels peanuts and corn. We gave up on trying to put up squirrel proof feeders....they are just too smart!

thank you for your kind visit to the s-dtr.

  6. Lovely picture. When I lived in Basel city, they often landed on my (outside) window sill. It drove my cats mad! LOL

  7. During the very bad storm we had last month all the seed from our bird feeder got blown everywhere. We now have gazillions of sunflowers sprouting everywhere!

  10. Great shot of the bird. Yes, the squirrels are a huge nuisance for the birds. Have we seen our last snow storm of the year yet?

  11. great photos on your blog! the squirrels in my yard love chestnuts, which I buy at Safeway when they're available. i don't dare feed birds, as there are too many cats here. they don't need any extra rations....

  14. Hi Rook,

It's reassuring to know that it's freezing cold somewhere, it makes me enjoy the lovely weather here even more. As for the pyramids I went into Khefren's (the 2nd one) but not Cheops because at 50 pounds (with the student discount) it would have broke my $10 a day budget (which I am managing to stick to).

As for theories about the pyramids and other conspiracies, personally I just think that we're too proud to give older generations the credit that they're due and are amazed if they could actually do something better than us.

P.S. I was wondering who the Space Cadet was.

  15. Squirrels gotta eat too. Everybody is so keen to keep their feeders squirrel proof. I know they can be gluttons sometimes, but I leave extra peanuts for them.

  19. You really seem to have lots of doves in Canada. I already admired these peaceful birds on other Canadian blogs. Great shots!
