House Inspection

No2Son and his Beloved have bought a house!

They won't be moving in until May1, but this weekend I was able to go with them to see the house and measure for appliances. Three bedrooms upstairs, gas fireplace in the living room, gas furnace, full basement. They can't wait to move in!

  1. How very nice for them. A new home is so special. It sounds comfy and roomy. Its so nice you could help them with the essentials.

  2. When we told our friends in Toronto once that hardly anyone in Oz has a basement, they were flabbergasted.

Of course, it would only be me that would notice the electricity meter!

  6. That looks a lovely house!! Does it have a garden? A full basement? So thats a room underneath the size of the house! Cor that would cost in excess of £250,000 over here!!!

  7. Hi Rook,

It's nice to see scenes of domesticity whilst on the road: making marmalade and buying a new house. It sort of lets me know that life is still going on as usual.

As for lake Asal and its saltiness. Well it used to be joined to the sea (check out a map of Africa to see the geography) but was blocked off by a volcanic eruption and subsequent lava flow. That formed a large salt lake, nost of which has since evaporated and the small lake that is left has reached an equilibrium between the rate of evaporation and flow of water. It is therefore very saline and just like the Dead Sea you can float in it.
