Puppysitting

I've been puppysitting 5 month old Tessa while YoungerSon and The Bride enjoyed a skiing weekend.

I didn't know a puppy required so much equipment. The list included:
1. Padded Bed (for snoozing in the kitchen during the day)
2. Blanket for the Bed
3. Cage (for sleeping in the hall during the night)
4. One blanket inside the cage and another one to cover the cage
5. Folding puppy gates
6. Juicy beef knuckle bone for a special treat
7. Packet of lamb flavour doggy biscuits
8. Tupperware container of special Puppy dog food
9. Collar and leash
10. Generous handful of chew stix
11. Rawhide bone (she didn't like this much)
12. Tennis ball
13. Squeaky toy
14. Food dish and water dish
15. Bitter apple spray (to discourage chewing on the furniture)
16. Carpet cleaner spray (in case of accidents)
17. Puppy handling guide book

WOW. Worse than having a rambunctious toddler come to stay. But we had a great time. Lots of long energetic walks in the forest.

She ate all my plastic flower pots. The back yard closely resembles a Bill and Ben battle ground.

But she's so cute, how can anyone resist her???

  6. She is adorable. What breed is she? I have the occasional puppy/dogsitting weekend, and one thing I've found very useful is to have babies' disposable nappies(diapers) handy. They don't need to be an expensive brand, just the cheap supermarkets own brand is fine. It's great for mopping up any accidents; put the absorbant side down on the carpet and stand on it, it shlurps it all up. (Works for wine spills too)

  17. Thanks for the comments, everyone. Tessa is a Golden Doodle, her father is a standard poodle and her mother is a cross between a standard poodle and a golden retriever. She has boundless energy, and when we go walking in the forest, I'm the only one to do any actual walking, she covers far more ground than I do!
Peter: she loves her cage, it's nice and warm and dark, she goes in it every night of her own accord, she has never slept on a human bed!

  20. Hi, I had to smile as I read your list. I just posted about my weekend of puppy sitting with a Labradoodle that's 12 weeks old. She was fun but my goodness it's like having a baby in the house again.
Great shots, especially the last one with the snowy face. You have to frame that one.

  22. Thanks for the answer: Seems to be the perfect dog!

  23. She's Byootiful! Ah, yep, I WANT ONE! But you've given me a good cautionary tale there about all the equipment required to care and give a loving home to her. First job, THEN puppy! OK...I'm jealous of the snow though....

  27. You asked so many questions, and you are right - puupys need care - both dogs and cats - and you managed very well - even fantastic photos.

    Thanks for sharing

  29. He is so lovely and wow what a lot of things he needs. Lucky you having snow, we like sunshine but snow would be very good rather than all the wet cold rain.

  32. Did she make you think of Wendy? I bet you're thinking that another dog might not be such a bad idea.

  33. LOL! I remember those early days when we travelled with our Old English Sheepdog - bringing 1 bag for both of us and 2 for the dog ;-)
