Christmas 2008 and New Year's Eve are all a distant illusion now.
The decorations have been stowed back in the box in the basement, and the turkey bones have been simmered into soup. The torn wrapping paper has been recycled and we've all enjoyed Chevy Chase's antics in "Christmas Vacation" and Jimmy Stewart in "It's a Wonderful Life" on the telly.
I love the excitement of Christmas and New Year, but I'm always glad when it's over and life can get back to a routine. But the memories of all the fun endure....
Ah, two of my favorite movies!!
ReplyDeleteLooking forwarding to blogging more with you in 2009 :)
Looks like so much fun!
ReplyDeleteI haven't put away any decorations yet!
Ah, but it is those illusions we charish, that make us look forward to next Christmas! Sweet memories ...
ReplyDeleteWonderful family photo memories....I love the scuba? mask one!
ReplyDeleteI always feel a bit sad when Christmas is put away. This year Steve and I were feeling particularly sorry for ourselves and didn't even put up a tree. We have promised to never, ever do that again.
Isn't this just what Christmas is all about. All smiles and happy moments!

Nice pics. Smiles and memories. I too am glad to begin decorating and once I put everything away again.
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice collage of family. All the smiles!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you have a lovely family. Yes, when January arrives it's time to let Christmas go for another year. ;-)
ReplyDeleteYes, it's over .... but only for this time!
ReplyDeleteYou're way ahead of me. I'm only halfway through taking down the decorations, but I'd better hurry, because tomorrow is the 6th!
ReplyDeleteLovely photos for remembering this Christmas!
ReplyDeleteAnd Callum is soooo sweet, more like Finnish baby than Melli ever was :)
No she is not any more baby, she is a girl. Think, how short is that baby time. You are lucky to see Callum more often and you can follow his progress.
My grandchildren left us today and now my house is upside down and I feel rather tired myself - but it`s over tomorrow :)
Nice day to you!
I agree, it's a lovely time, but as soon as New Year is here I've had enough. It's good to get things put away, and start looking ahead to spring and better weather.
ReplyDeleteLovely collage of your family celebrations.x
Always enjoy coming here and its fun seeing your family having a terrific time. Kids and the holidays make it super.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to get things stored away too but I miss the glitteriness (is that a word?) of the decorations.
What great photos! It looks like everyone is having/had a good time! Have you ever seen "A Christmas Story"?
ReplyDeletemy life can get back to normal now--more napping!
ReplyDeletenow its been far too long since i watched its a wonderful life.
ReplyDeletewe're putting away decorations tonight
which always feels kind of good, as well as sad
I know what you mean, Sham! What would we do without it at the end of every year. We hang so much of our lives on those pegs. Then we start all over again! Well, you're ahead of me. I'm happy if I get everything put away by Valentine's Day. :)
ReplyDeleteSure looks like you had fun.. wonderful memories.
ReplyDeleteLovely photos Shammy!
ReplyDeleteLike you, I'mm always quite relieved to get back to normal!
Happy New Year.
That Callum is growing so fast! He's such a cutie! No babies here anymore, although I do have Greats in Northern CA. Not the same as close by though..
ReplyDeleteThis is a nice family college...marks you as a rich woman indeed..
Christmas put away..celebrations over..nothing for it but to plow onward with the dratted resolutions..
Don't think I would like to swim in Lake Ontario in winter! The Atlantic was bad enough!
ReplyDeleteIs that Guitar Hero I see? I just played that for the first time last night. Fun!!
ReplyDeleteMay the New Year bring you all the excitement you can bear, with lots of love and happiness!
