And why am I skipping about and singing happily, you may ask? Well, you may not have noticed, but I just changed my Blogger profile from Semi-retired to Retired!
Yup, this was my last day at work.
Actually I took early retirement from my job in September 2002, but by January 2003 I had a phone call.... The work's piling up, can you come back on contract for six months?
Six months turned into 4-1/2 years!
And today I decided that 4-1/2 years was quite enough. So now I am looking forward to enjoying a relaxing summer. One problem, minor surgery on a bone spur on my foot in July, but that's OK, it just means I'll have time to sit under a shady tree and catch up on my reading.
Can anyone recommend any good books?
Oh and by the way, that's ZED, not ZEE!
Congratulations on the retirement.
ReplyDeleteTime to blog more often. :-)
Goodness, all these people retiring!! Me too!! But not until July 13 - very appropriate date don't you think? Friday 13th.
ReplyDeleteMs Soup
Hurray!! Congratulations! Yippee! So very excited for your retirement...as you've said, perfectly timed for enjoyment of summer, lemonade or ice tea and a good book. Please keep us up to date on your surgery, too.
ReplyDeletecongrats on retirement, hope they don't call you again!
ReplyDeleteCongradulations for sure, you won't know what to do with yourself for a few weeks.
ReplyDeleteyou asked on my blog what kind of fish they grow there.
Atlantic Salmon, brook and rainbow trout, and kikanee salmon
Lucky you! Mine soon too.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the club - and for good this time then!!!
ReplyDeleteSo, now you have all the time to start a new chapter, also on your blog, after having managed to go through all (your) alphabet! Good timing!
Many congratulations. I bet you don't sit down for too long!!! I think its more along the lines of, I can if I want and when I want!
ReplyDeleteWoo-hoo! So nice that you will be able to kick your feet up. Too bad that it will by by doctor's orders at first.
ReplyDeleteHey, this alphabet thing was a neat idea, and you did it very well, but what's a "Zed?" (Just kidding.)
Yes, good for you. Have a lovely lazy time. You deserve it after years of work. I am in semi retirement. Found it hard to work after my mother died last year.
ReplyDeleteBooks: loads of them. Have you ever read any of Sally Vickers or Haruki Murakami (? spelling). They are amazing. (the correct spelling is on the front page of my blog).
hey, congratulations!!! hold fast against any further blandishments from your employer! as for books, my librarian niece, susan, here in town for the ALA meeting, mentioned a writer named Lois Lowry. She writes for young adults and has won many awards. I read "The Giver" over the weekend, and now I'm on "Number the Stars." Great books, and good for grannies to know so they can recommend them to their offspring. Very easy to read, but they make you think, too. Awk!
ReplyDeleteHope you've got your foot up on a cushion and some nice iced tea in your glass!! l'chaim!

ReplyDeleteThanks everyone, for your comments. Yup, I think I shall enjoy retirement. But even the last 4-1/2 years wasn't really like work. I chose what time to arrive (I hate rush hour), left when I felt like it, and decided I didn't need to be there on Fridays, plus I went on vacation any time I wanted, so as the Aussies say, No Worries Mate!
Thanks for the reading advice, I'll be heading to the library the day before I head to the hospital. And then The Space Cadet can wait on me hand and foot (haha) for a week or so!
Ah, having time to read is such a luxury. Have you thought about . . . writing???
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!!
ReplyDeleteAs for books, I'd recommend "Girl with a Pearl Earring" by Tracy Chevalier.
At last...congratulations on finding time to spend under a tree reading.
ReplyDeleteHope your surgery goes well and it will be a good retirement..
I hope you enjoy your summer...I'm sure it is so very green in Canada............Happy Retirement!
ReplyDeleteI think you will like retirement.

ReplyDeleteI have done the odd bit of writing for the local paper a long time ago, but nothing recent. I'm sure I'll enjoy being retired, and I know I'll find lots of activities to fill my time. I'll start by making a cuppa tea for Martin (and any other blogger who wants to drop in for a visit). Martin, it's outside on the patio table... Milk and sugar?
Hoo to the dee hoo! Retirement is W.O.N.D.E.R.F.U.L.
