Red Hat Valentine

Red Hat Ladies make a point of taking every opportunity to have a good time, so what better excuse to celebrate our wonderful selves than to go out for a Valentine's Day dinner?

Last Friday, diners at the local pub were treated to the astonishing vision of a table full of gorgeous women brightly dressed in the traditional Red Hat colours of red and purple.
Were we noisy and loud? Afraid so.
Did we spend most of the time laughing? Oh yes.
Did we all have a great time? Of course we did.
Red Hat Ladies Rule!

Da Classic Scoop

This old clapboard General Store has been in business since before 1875, but it's sitting on property that's needed for road widening. This town's getting bigger. Lot's of debate going on... move it further back on the property, or bring in the bulldozers?

Back in the 1930's and 40's it was used as a Post Office. Currently it's the home of Da Classic Scoop, a funky diner, serving breakfasts and lunches, and icecream in the summer. Inside, the walls are covered with old time memorabilia... record sleeves, licence plates, movie posters, other people's junk that the current owner has turned into treasure.

It would be a shame to see this local landmark disappear, but like so many growing towns, space is needed for "improvements". Even though the Heritage Advisory Committee is advocating moving the building, the ole gal will probably be gone by the summer. Saving old buildings just because they are old isn't high on the town's financial priority list, unless there is unique architectural value.

So, in order say goodbye to Da Classic Scoop in grand style, the Red Hat Ladies got all spiffed up in our going-out-to-lunch outfits, and did just that!

Fifteen women sang, laughed, lunched, told stories, and laughed some more. I don't think that Da Classic Scoop people knew what hit them!

Tea Party Time

There was a Tea Party and Wedding Shower in the back yard this weekend.
Raspberry Mousse White Chocolate cake from the Italian Bakery.... need I say more?

Gifts, laughter, friends meeting friends, a celebration of the happy couple. Less than two months to go until The Big Day.

And one of the Guests of Honour slept right through all the fun!

Well, you can't blame her, Wendydog had her 13th birthday a couple of weeks ago. Far too much excitement for an old lady.

Father's Day, Red Hats, and a Sunset

Breaking away from the Alphabet theme again (only Y and Z to go, folks!), Sunday was Father's Day.
The Space Cadet and his younger son D headed for Timber Creek, the local driving range.





I joined them, and hit a few balls, but Tiger Woods has nothing to fear from me! I don't think I was cut out to hit a little white ball into a hole, unless of course, you're talking about Mini-Putt, I'm pretty good at that!










D was fully equipped with golf shoes and a golf bag full of expensive clubs, obviously a keen golfer. He and his brother are planning to take The Space Cadet out for 18 holes next weekend.

D could whack that ball for miles, The Space Cadet wasn't quite as skillful, but he hadn't played for ages.... or at least that was his excuse. I thnk they'd better rent a golf cart next weekend for sure.

A fun way to spend a sunny Sunday Father's Day afternoon.

Well, that was the excitement on Sunday.... on Monday the Whistle Stop Red Hat Ladies met at Janette's for a Strawberry Tea! I wish I had taken photos of all the strawberry treats.... so yummy! Janette's husband has a strawberry farm.... more about that in the future.

Every year the Red Hat Banner is presented to a deserving Red Hatter.... here's Queenie making the presentation speech...

And tonight.... Tuesday.... a huge violent thunderstorm, and then a wonderful sunset.

H is for Hats.... and not just any Hats - RED HATS!

Today, April 25, is RED HAT DAY!

75 elegantly attired Red Hatters from far and wide took over the pub restaurant tonight to Paint The Town RED. There were speeches, games, prizes, songs, skits, good food, good conversation, tons of laughter and lots of new friendships made.

The Red Hat Society is an organisation for women who have attained the age of 50, and who want to have fun, silliness, creativity and friendship! Remember that Cyndi Lauper song "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun"? That's us!

We wear a red hat and a purple outfit, (as in Jenny Joseph's poem "Warning") , often embellished with a feather boa and lots of sparkle, and you can see us in groups all over the world. Last count was about 1.5 million members!

We meet whenever we feel like it, and do whatever we want... we are especially fond of tea parties! There are NO rules, NO by-laws, and NO membership dues..... how about that for a fun organisation??
