Day Three O Eight

This morning at 12:01am the Province of Ontario was ordered into yet another strict lockdown due to alarming numbers of Covid infections and deaths. In the words of Premier Ford, "Stay at home!" Currently in Ontario there have been 230,000 cases and over 5,000 deaths, mainly in care homes for the elderly. Positive tests are going up by more than 3,000 a day.

We can go out for daily exercise, walking the dog (I don't have a dog), medical appointments, going to work, shopping for essentials. But of course everyone has a different opinion of what is essential. I made sure I had lots of groceries all ready for this. And library books. And art supplies.

The sun came out for the first time in a week today, so I took the opportunity to go for my permitted exercise. It was so quiet.... no traffic noise, hardly anyone about. A couple of dog walkers, that's all. I could have walked down the middle of the road quite safely. (But I didn't!)

This week.... my old breadmaker bit the dust so I ordered a new one. Haven't made bread in it yet, but I will soon, looking forward to it!

And once I bake the bread, I'll have something to spread on it. I was complaining here about the lack of Marmite in the local grocery stores, and blogger emeritus EC in Australia answered the call, sending me a jar of the precious gooey black stuff. Then I mentioned it to one of my British cousins, and guess what appeared in my mailbox last week. So now I can do a taste comparison..... Red top is Australian (actually made in NZ) and yellow top is British. Two Marmite fairies..... thank you!

And there is still a lack of Marmite on Canadian store shelves!

  2. LOL I'm a Vegemite fan myself.
I hope your lockdown works - it sounds like you are well prepared anyway.
Take care and stay safe, Mxx

  5. If I had Marmite I'd gladly give it to you! But it's unlikely to make its way into my kitchen. I tasted is as a kid in the UK. Just the once..

I'm glad you have all your essentials for the lockdown. This stuff is all getting really old, no?

    1. Yes, I'm getting rather fed up with being in a lockdown situation,. Especially as it's dull cold grey January.

  7. I don't know if I have ever tasted Marmite or Vegemite...I've heard it's an acquired taste.
Hope the lockdown is successful for you.
We pretty much stay close to home too. Some grocery shopping..I really stocked up so we can hunker down for the next few weeks.
    Take care

    1. I have lots to do to keep me busy.... currently sorting out papers and documents in the basement.... but what I really want to do is go out to see my friends, or invite them all to dinner.... but I'll have to wait, thanks to Mr. Covid.

  8. Makes a healthy start to the day Shammi, so I've heard, haven't tried it 😉 My husband is a fan of Vegemite and I don't mind it now and then, but not often. Sorry to hear about renewed restrictions, the only thing that's going to help get the world back to normal is an effective vaccine. Take care and enjoy your freshly baked bread and Marmite xx

  9. I didn't know that Australians were into Marmite. Now they do have that poison called Vegemite, which is no doubt responsible for maladies unknown, but Marmite? And they import it from New Zealand! I have tried both Vegemite and Marmite and prefer finger-nail pulling!!

  10. My preference for things that make people gag is Korean Kim Chi. Sort of rotten fermented cabbage with lots of chili peppers. Properly made it is hotter than the hubs of hell. I can buy Kim chi in the market in Dnipro but it is not very hot as spicy is not a Ukrainian thing.
