Where there's Smoke, there's Fire

Yesterday afternoon.

The sun was shining and it was a hot June day, the sky was a brilliant blue, then suddenly.... a column of black smoke billowing upwards. The sound of sirens in the distance. A fire truck zooms by at top speed. Then another one. Then the wail of police cars. This isn't good news.

The view from my deck at the back of the house.

Everyone, including the cat and the dog, is safe, thank goodness.
The local pool construction company showed up with a tanker truck full of water. There were five fire trucks there at the height of the blaze, and a couple were still there into the evening, with the police and the Fire Chief, just making sure there were no flareups. Those firemen are heroes, no contest!

  1. Yes, Firemen are the true heroes.
I'm so glad everyone is safe. How scary and too close to where you live.

    1. The house is not far over the back fence.... too far to be a danger though.

  2. I’m glad everyone is safe, what an awful thing to happen to the family and their home. Firemen are heroes no doubt about it.

  4. A fire in a home is always bad. I've been through it once. I hope never again.

  5. Someone's dream home has been seriously damaged but hopefully they have insurance and will be able put it back the way it was. I am a little surprised to hear you and the other women here describe firefighters as true heroes in light of recent revelations about systemic and repeated misconduct and abuse of female firefighters, some of whom were subjected to the most disgusting treatment imaginable.

    1. I agree that systemic and repeated misconduct and abuse of female firefighters, or anyone at all, is certainly not going to earn anyone the title of hero, however, I still admire firefighters, male or female,..... they do a job that I would not ever be brave enough to consider.

    1. I walked past the site of the fire yesterday.... just black timbers. Not much left of the garage and considerable damage to the house too. Very frightening.

  11. Oh my gosh that was a little too close Shammi! What a shame, hopefully something we won't ever experience, but then I guess the home owners here didn't expect this either. I do think fire fighters are heroes, especially here in Oz where they battle horrendous summer bush fires every year ✨

  12. House fires have always scared me. The house I grew up in would have been gone in 10 minutes. I'm glad no one was hurt.
