Arty Farty

Last year I signed up for a course in acrylics... I thought splashing paint on canvas would be fun. And it is! It's something I haven't tried since I left high school.
Ann will probably recognise this scene.
I'm not very good at it. In fact, I haven't really finished anything to my own satisfaction. Still experimenting. But I'm finding out that I like the bright colours and using different textures. This one includes paper from my shredder, strips of newspaper and a bicycle cut out of Zoomer magazine.
I've signed up for a couple more courses starting in April.
I don't think I'll ever be invited to exhibit at the National Gallery, but I'm having fun.

  1. These are Brilliant! Yes, I reckon I know that scene pretty well in your first painting..lol, and LOVE the colours you have used. It's bold and bright and confident. This certainly is something you have to continue, love it. Didn't notice at first the collage on your second painting, but what a great method, love this one too. I would say from seeing these two paintings that you have had FUN and that's what it is all about. Keep at it....can't wait to see what else you do.....ann.

  2. Shammie, these are lovely. I love your use of bright colours.. that always appeals to my sense of whimsy. And so clever of you to include shredded paper and images from magazines. Nicely done.

  6. I love your paintings. My father was an avid acrylic painter who lived just outside Exeter. The colours in your pictures make me long for sunny days. The trees are great,I'm sure an art enthusiast would find a deep environmental messages in the shredded paper in the trees.Keep going they're wonderful.

  7. Oh, how fun, Sham. I've always wanted to try my hand at watercolors but...will probably stick to manipulating that effect through my photo tools. You're every bit as creative as I expected you to be! :)

  10. I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE these! The bright colours! (added that u just for you!) :) Most especially adore the mixed media painting w/ all the texture. Mixed Media is one of the artistic mediums I admire the most and try (usually unsuccessfully) now and then. I admit I'm much more of a crafter than an artist, wish I had more artist in me, but happy with what I can do. You're inspiring me!
